Generville par Sours: Jouets J.A. Éducatifs et Artistiques, 1965. Toy framing kit, part of an ambitious series of “jouets éducatifs et artistiques” that also included deluxe box kits devoted to bookbinding, cabinetmaking, and engraving. L’Encadreur includes enough material for children to construct about a dozen framed pieces of different sizes, using sample art reproductions and their own contributions. The manufacturer’s brochure and box both announce the kit’s recognition, in 1965, as a national toy of distinction. A stunning “jeu de construction.”. Toy framing kit, containing manufacturer’s brochure and instructions, various lengths of wooden trim (gilt, silver, blue, and bronze), color prints, color matboard, transparent “rhodoïd” sheet, tape, scissors, brush, vial of glue (evaporated), rings and fasteners. Housed in manufacturer’s hinged red card box measuring 11.5 x 16.5 x 2 inches, with pale blue interior and white fabric tie. Red labels lettered in gilt, reading “JA” and “L’Encadreur,” to box exterior. Two mounted paper strips to box lid, reading “Mention Loisirs Jeunes 1965” and “Oscar 1965.” Remnants of cellophane tape to box interior, shelfwear and sunning to box.
