The Crossing is Cormac McCarthy's second installment in his Border Trilogy, which begins with All the Pretty Horses (1992) and concludes with Cities of the Plain (1998). As the first novel published (truncated) after McCarthy won the National Book Award in 1992 for All the Pretty Horses, The Crossing was met with much anticipation and high expectations.
