Sepia-tone silver-print photograph pasted down on matte, signed and dated in black ink by Lange on upper left of photograph, manuscript in pencil on verso reads, "Jon: Dorothea Lange; 2 yrs. old (wearing a knitted suit made by Grandma Brittan)." Dorothea Lange (b.1895 - d.1965) was an American photographer known for her photojournalistic work, and well known for her images of the Great Depression. This image is from a series of photographs that depict Albert and Elizabeth Elkus with their children, Jon and Ben Elkus. Albert Elkus was a well-known classical musician who taught at U.C. Berkeley and were also lifelong friends of Lange. (Inventory #: 345866)
