Three horizontal and two vertical creases for mailing, two easily erasable later penciled notes, else about fine. A rather terse note from legendary bibliophile John Carter, signed in type Charles Scribner's Sons and initialed "J.W.C." in manuscript, to Messrs. Campbell & Don-Wauchope of Edinburgh. The six-line note, regarding James Young Simpson's book *The Garment Of The Living God: Studies in the Relations of Science and Religion*, says (in much more polite terms) "there is nothing to be done at present, like we wrote you (truncated)
