All the Pretty Horses tells the story of John Grady Cole, a young rancher who finds his life at a crossroads and embarks on a journey to Mexico. It was Cormac McCarthy's first commercially successful book and won the National Book Award and National Books Critics Circle (truncated) Award. In 2000, the book was adapted into a film directed by Billy Bob Thorton, and starring Matt Damon and Penélope Cruz.
