Universal City: Universal Pictures, 1943. Five vintage publicity photographs of swing and boogie-woogie singing trio The Andrews Sisters, dated variously between 1941 and 1943.
The trio appeared in 17 Hollywood films throughout the 1940s, most notably "Private Buckaroo" (1942) and "Road to Rio" (1947). The sisters were frequently paired with the Ritz Brothers, a comedy musical group also contracted with Universal.
From the archive of noted Hollywood still photographer Ray Jones. Born in Wisconsin on January 1, 1901, Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s, and was the first still photographer to win an Academy Award. He went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures, where he worked well into the 1950s.
