first edition Unbound
1966 · New York
by FORAKIS, Peter
New York: Park Place Gallery, 1966. Unbound. Fine. Decorated broadside mailer. 11" x 32". Printed in red on white glossy paper. Folded as mailed, with recipients name, a postmark, and small sealing label, else fine. A Park Place Gallery announcement poster. Forakis designed the poster for the important landmark Gallery Six poetry reading in 1955 that was one of the central events of the Beat Movement (and which saw the first public performance of a portion of Ginsberg's *Howl*), was a co-founder of Park Place Gallery, one of the first shared co-op art spaces, and made his name in monumental abstract sculpture. The design of this poster reflects the later esthetic. Rare. *OCLC* seems to locate no copies of this broadside, but does locate a single copy of a poster (at the Tate Library and Archive) for a joint exhibition of Forakis and Edwin Ruda, printed earlier that same year and at the same gallery.
