Bismarck, North Dakota: W.G. Gilbreath, Commissioner of Agriculture, 1909. In 1905, North Dakota's legislature appropriated $20,000 to advertise the state. W.G. Gilbreath, Commissioner of Agriculture, used some of the funds to start the North Dakota Magazine, a promotional enterprise, in 1906. From 1905 to 1910, his organization distributed 170,000 copies of the magazine, 265,000 folding maps of North Dakota, 10,000 wall maps, and 370,500 folders and circulars (University of North Dakota).
This issue features Chapter XIII in a “Popular History of North Dakota” by Clement A. Lounsberry, pioneer journalist and chief booster of the state’s resources, as well as ten articles: “Grand Forks Building Operations for 1908”, “Adams County”, “Hettinger County”, “Thriving Towns of North Dakota”, “Producing Apples”, “Ransom County”, “A Model Dairy Farm”, “Good Advice”, “Industrial Education”, and “An Ideal County”.
