Wes Anderson's feature film directorial debut, cowritten with actor Owen Wilson, about three friends who plan a heist in the southwestern suburbs. Based on Anderson's 1992 short film of the same title, whose success at the 1994 Sundance Film Festival persuaded filmmaker James L. Brooks to finance a full-length version of the film.
Shot on location in Dallas, Fort Worth, and Hillsboro, Texas, and at the Camarillo State Mental Hospital in Camarillo, California.
