1897 · Old Orchard Beach, Maine
Old Orchard Beach, Maine: The Aldine Hotel, 1897. Light toning, dust soiling to edges.. Printed invitation to an "Off Night at the Aldine", a night of "Phantasms" and "Illusions" to titillate guests on a cold evening in January, 1897. Dishes served included Mince Pie, Lobster and Milk, and Welsh Rabbit and Ale. The Aldine was a hotel built in 1881 in Old Orchard Beach, Maine, a beach side resort town just south of Portland. It was destroyed by the extensive Orchard Beach fire in 1907, and never rebuilt (spooky!). Measures approx. 4" by 5", verso blank, printed in dark teal with images of skeleton ghosts rising from oil lamp on right and skeleton in cloak on left. (Inventory #: 24000672)
