Salt Lake City: Salt Lake Theatre, 1872. Near-fine. Minor toning, one or two small spots.. Handbill advertising performances for the "Benefit of the Popular Actor, Mr. A. Thorne" at the Salt Lake Theatre. Watts Phillips' play "Maud's Peril" premiered in 1867 to mixed reviews; it is followed here by a performance of the farce "A Capital Match". Both were premiering in Salt Lake City for the first time. Measures 5.5" by 8"; verso blank. The Salt Lake Theatre was built in 1862, and persisted as a popular source of local entertainment until the advent of the motion picture. It was sold after WWI, and ultimately razed. The Pioneer Memorial Museum used the Theatre as inspiration for its facade. (Inventory #: 21000526)
