Wraps
1915 · Parkersburg, West Virginia
Parkersburg, West Virginia: The United States Roofing Tile Company, 1915. Wraps. Very Good. Oblong, 21.5 by 28 cm. 120 pp. Begins with practical information about tiles and the company's products, including such topics as maintenance, drawings of detailing, design tips, etc. Also included are four color plates of tile designs -- and several other non-color plates. Then seventy pages of b/w photos of buildings and interiors where the company's tiles were used. There is a single large photo per page. Photos are of office and public buildings, schools, churches, auto showrooms, hospitals, restaurants, stores, apartments and homes, railroad stations, etc. (truncated) The photos are not only interesting for the visual documentation of the prevailing architecture of the day but also for how these spaces looked then, even the ones that survive to our times. In the back is an extensive list of the many places where the company's tiles were used, broken down by type of structure and then state by state. Scarce -- only two institutional copies of the company's catalogues, both this one, listed on OCLC First Search -- at Columbia and Canadian Centre for Architecture. Wraps have light staining throughout. Generally clean within, with light wear from use.
