Description: Begins with a rubricated hand-written title page (1889) announcing the discovery of the Bible attributed to Affability Lodge. General title page (n.d.), ruled in red and engraved with the four gospel symbols surrounded by the tents of the twelve tribes and the twelve apostles. Full-page wood engraving of Adm and Eve in the Garden facing Genesis 1. Text in two column Roman font, the whole rule din red throughout. (truncated) Includes Apocrypha as issued. Printed New Testament title page (1607) with head and tailpiece. Bible text ends with the Two Tables and bound with The Whole Booke of Psalmes (1607) by Sternhold and Hopkins with architectural border. First chapter woodcut initials, head- and tailpieces throughout.

Binding: Rebound in period-style black paneled calf with corner fleurons. Spine with five blind-lined raised bands and blind tooling to compartments with a gilt-lined red morocco label and the words "Holy Bible" lettered in gilt. All edges gilt. Remnants of previous cover laid down to pastedown featuring dedication from brother John Morton to the lodge and a Christogram below. Plain endpapers.
Condition: [par]2 fore-edge strengthened; A2 edges repaired; M6 lower corner loss of ten lines of text to outer column; Pp2 lower corner tissue repair (no text loss); Pp3 (Psalm 24) lower corner loss of 15 lines of text; Ss3 lower corner marginal loss; General and NT titles laid down; final handful of leaves to Metrical Psalter reinforced at fore-edge; great margins throughout; intermittent staining and spotting, particularly to the first few signatures.
