first edition Hardcover
1852 · Boston
Boston: Crosby & Nichols, 1852. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Likely the work of Adelaide O'Keeffe, this was the ninth volume in the Young People's Library, which was published by Crosby & Nichols and their related imprints between 1851 and 1868. O'Keeffe (1776-1865) is credited as the author of the title piece in the anthology "One Thousand Poems for Children" (1923). 18mo: 48 pp. with a frontispiece, textual vignettes, and 6 full-page plates, all wood engravings. In the publisher's forest green morocco-grain cloth binding, with gilt-stamped floral ornaments and titling, and blind-stamped ruled borders and spandrels. Tiny bit of foxing to the contents, with a period ink gift inscription to the front flyleaf. The spine is a trifle faded; otherwise very good. Excedingly scarce, OCLC locates only one holding (Bibliomation). Provenance: from the Publishers' Bookbindings collection of Ellen K. Morris and Edward S. Levin. (Inventory #: 77893)
