JOHN MCLEAN (1785-1861). McLean was a Supreme Court Justice as well as Postmaster General and a Congressman from Ohio.ALS. 1pg. July 21, 1831. Columbus, Ohio. An autograph letter signed John McLean. During his long tenure as Supreme Court Justice, McLean wrote to a banker to clear up an issue with a transaction. Dear Sir, I lately drew a check for $500 in favour of Mr. Spencer, on the Washington branch instead of the branch of Cincinnati. Mr. Smith informs me, that he paid the check, and drew on me for that amount, and a hundred dollars more. Please charge Mr. Smith draft or drafts to my amount. With great respect Your obt sert John McLean. The letter is in very good condition with a prominent vertical fold and some later pencil notations. (Inventory #: 6339)
