Bennett (1804-86), an Anglican priest, is celebrated for having provoked the decision that the doctrine of the Real Presence is a dogma not inconsistent with the creed of the Church of England. Octavo: xiv, [2], 463, [1] pp. Buff coated endpapers, with fan marbling in ochre, crimson, and grayish blue. All edges gilt over red, with gauffering in fan and alternating cross and fleur-de-lis pattern. In the publisher's deluxe brown morocco over rounded boards, with four raised bands, gilt-stamped titling, dark brown-stamped ruled and floral ornamental borders, ruled frames with floral and diamond ornaments, four brass fore-edge corners with pierced floral decoration, and a brass pin and receiver hinged clasp with pierced floral mountings.
