by KLIMOV, Gregory
London: Faber and Faber, 1953. First Edition. Octavo. 22cm. Publisher's deep red cloth titled in black to spine. Dustjacket. 400pp. Light bumping to spine ends, bright and bold, internally clean, with the "All Rights Reserved" statement on the verso of the title page obscured by marker pen, the pale residue of which is visible through the title page, in a bright dustjacket with some light marginal wear and fraying to spine ends and extremities and some largely unnecessary tape reinforcement to the verso of the jacket. A very good, handsome copy.
An on the ground attempt to provide some insight for the American audience regarding the psyche of the Cold War Eastern Bloc mindset. Written from Klimov's journals when he was stationed in Berlin on the Soviet side, before his defection to the West. An interesting glimpse into the contradictory, often ridiculous, and frequently sinister requirements of operating safely within the paranoid post-war Communist regime. (Inventory #: 83664)
