[Huntington Park, California]: Office of the Huntington Park Signal, 1917. Wraps. Very good. Illustrated pamphlet for the Southern California community situated southeast of Los Angeles, just outside of the city limits. Established in 1906, Huntington Park was initially a streetcar suburb for workers in the rapidly expanding industries to the southeast of downtown Los Angeles.
This booster piece describes many of the benefits afforded to residents, including climate, soil, water, churches, schools, and business blocks. It is also noted that "saloons and pool rooms are prohibited" and "foreign language is rarely heard, and all the activities of the people are of the highest American type."
Huntington Park remained an almost exclusively white community until the 1970s when the decline of American manufacturing resulted in a demographic shift. Today, the city's population is more than 95% Latino or Hispanic.
Booklet: [12] pp. with 24 photographic illustrations and a map. Bound with two staples in printed blue paper wrappers. Some light toning and wear along the extremities; else very good or better. Scarce, OCLC locates no holdings. (Inventory #: 77863)
