Loosely based on the life of Kate "Ma" Barker, the head of the Barker-Karpis gang during the Great Depression. An early appearance by actor Robert De Niro, who appears as Lloyd, the drug-addled youngest brother.

Shot on location in Arkansas, in Little Rock, Mountain Home, and Yellville.
