Hardcover. xxx, 384p., very good reprint hardcover bound in bright yellow cloth boards, green & black spine and front cover panels, toning to hinges, previous ownership name dated 1940 on front free endpaper, G-P on copyright page which would indicate July 1940 publication date, unclipped ($2.50 price tag) but heavily edgeworn dust jacket with back panel ad for "Native Son" The book was originally published in 1938 as "Four Long Stories" and was Wright's debut. After "Native Son" was published to high acclaim Harper republished the book adding one more story. Includes a long autobiographical preface: "The Ethics of Living Jim Crow" and the original four novellas:" Big Boy Leaves Home", "Down by the Riverside", "Long Black Song", & "Fire and Cloud (Inventory #: 328827)
