by Goldsmith, Dr. [Oliver]
London: for W. Griffin, 1772. Small Quarto. 7th edition. Half-title, engraved vignette title page, and 23pp text. Goldsmith's poem reflects on the social and economic changes that led to the decline of rural life in 18th century England. A life, he describes as being destroyed by the displacement of agrarian villagers, the greed of landlords, and economic and political change. This poem is an extract bound in a modern 3/4 leather over marbled papr covered baords, spine lettered and decorated in blind, a clean copy without foxing, names or bookplates. Title page and last page with off-setting to corners, most likely from previous binding. A very nice copy.
