1865 · New York
by McCormick, Richard C.(Secretary of Arizona Territory)
New York: D. Van Nostrand, 1865. Octavo. . 22 pages intended to be printed in the New York Tribune about the benefits of Arizona. While it explains that the vast majority of the Indians in Arizona are peaceful, it does note the threat of the Apache who he claims have less than 1,000 warriors. He then says if the U.S. Government had only dealt with them as they had with the Sioux there would be peace. This copy has the original rare map prepared by the Wauba-Yuma Mining Company covering Arizona and portions of California, Nevada, Utah and Mexico. There were only 4 counties in Arizona and Mojave County takes in the southern tip of present-day Nevada. Locates the Mowry and Heintzelman mines along the border with Mexico. This was the copy of W.J. Holliday who along with Coe, Eberstadt and later William S. Reese were major forces in Western Americana. OCLC shows only Yale has a copy in their Coe collection. A very good copy in the pamphlet style binder of the copy that came from the New York Tribune.
