1880 · [Atlantic City, New Jersey]
[Atlantic City, New Jersey], 1880. Very good. Toned, with some spotting. Minor edge wear, letter folds.. Printed handbill (9.25" by 6", verso blank) advertising a tableau-like exhibit installation at the Museum of Natural History in Atlantic City, New Jersey. The exhibit, titled "Wonderland, or Rocky Mountain Scenery", describes itself as "a work of Fine Art, so realistic that you seem to stand on Enchanted Ground, before the Rockies, ina ll their grandeur. Gold Miners are at work; Railroads in the distance with passing and repassing trains, over ravines and bridges, while at the foothills is seen the humble log cabin of the frontier family ... Remember this is not a Painting, but the features are all worked out in miniature, making it a work of Fine Art as well as a Mechanical Ingenuity" (recto). Lists admission as 10 cents.
