by Biggers, Earl Derr
Indianapolis: The Bobbs-Merrill Company. Very Good+. (c.1930). Early printing. Hardcover. (no dust jacket, but encased in a nice-looking facsimile reproduction of the original first edition jacket; see 2nd image posted with this listing) [a good sound copy, slight wear at corners, one-time owner's elegant signature on front endpaper]. The next-to-last of Biggers's half-dozen Chan adventures, this one has the inspector chasing down a murderer aboard the final leg of a round-the-world cruise, between San Francisco and Honolulu. This was the basis for the first of the fifteen Fox (later 20th Century-Fox) films in which Chan was portrayed by actor Warner Oland, and is classified as a "lost" film, of which no prints are known to exist (although a contemporaneous Spanish-language version of the film, with Manuel Arbo as Chan, has survived and is available on DVD). This is an early printing, with no edition statement on the copyright page and "The Black Camel," the preceding Chan novel, the most recent of the author's listed books. NOTE again that this book bears a FACSIMILE dust jacket, which has not been factored in to our pricing. .
