Descriptive program for visitors to this Civil War-themed panorama which, acccording to contemporary newspaper accounts, was exhibited in Philadelphia from February through August of 1886. Includes a frontispiece map of the battlefield; historical text describing the events of the battle, and a descriptionof the panorama. Interestingly, the list of artists who participated in creating the spectacle included only German painters: Eugene Bracht, Karl Roechling, George Koch, Paul Voorgang, Conrad Lessing, Max Roman and Karl Becker. Painted panoramas, often of epic size (the panorama of the Battle of Gettysburg, also exhibited in Philadelphia in 1886, measured 42 feet tall and nearly 400 feet in length) were a popular form of entertainment in the final decades of the 19th. century; their popularity declined after the advent of moving pictures.
