1860. Front wrap nearly detached. Wear and soiling from handling. Some ribbons and hair lacking (not counted). A hand constructed 3.5" by 4" well loved book. A friendship album including hair art, watercolor drawings and sentiments belonging to Phebe L. Green. About 10 pages in she proudly announced "The property of Miss Phebe L. Brown, Conneaut, OH" perhaps a marriage occurred (?). The book includes 68 entries from family and friends alike. There are 51 hairworks; some plated love rings, others circles of hair or wisps affixed with ribbons on snippets of polished paper. There is one charming naive cut paper "heart and hand" love token with a wisp of hair at top. It is unique in that the hand is not woven into the heart per se -- there are slits and the hand is "tucked" in, presented by Clinton Allison. Virtually all are signed, many also include the age of the signer. Two are marked deceased. Most with a rhyming verse including every variation of "Remember Me" imaginable. Approximately 10 naive and delicate floral watercolors. Also includes an insert with hair from five (5) Green family members including Phebe, dated 1857. A charming approach for a friendship album. Believed to be born 1848 in Defiance, Defiance, Ohio.
