This is the first book Society issued. Sidney R. De Long was a pioneer businessman and was the first historian at a salary of $45 a month--see Donald M. Powell on "A Bibliography of Arizona Historical Society Books" in Journal of Arizona History, (Autumn, 1983), Vol. 24, No. 3. As C.L. Sonnichen noted for the pioneers it was "our book" and in important milepost. Few copies have survived and those are usually in poor condition. A very nice clean copy, bound in dark blue cloth lettered in black, spine lettering gilt, with very minor rubbing to corners and spine ends otherwise a fine copy. [Wallace G-13.].
