by Masch, C. M. C.
Rostock: Grossherzoglich. Meklenburgschen Hof. Steindruckerei. J. G. Tiedemann, 1847. Blindstamped and gilt stamped cloth. Good. 4to. 25 by 21cm. 50 hand-colored plates, each featuring the coat-of-arms of the ruler of a kingdom, principality or other sovereign state in the Europe of the day, with a substantial number of these being in present day Germany. Accompanying each of the color plates, besides a tissue guard, is a plate with a family tree of the ruling family. These plates are often folding. In a few instances, there are two folding plates for a family tree. The contemporary blindstamped cloth has rubbed spots on the front board, stains on the rear as well as some blistering there. The spine is rebacked in a green cloth that is not obtrusive. The text block has slight cocking, with the front overhanging the back. Scattered light foxing and other soiling within. The armorial plates remain bright and vivid.
