1977 · Hartford, CT
Hartford, CT: Finnocchio's East, 1977. Three handbills of various sizes from a Finicchio's offshoot on the east coast modeled after the famous San Francisco attraction: a 3 x 8 inch card, with a paper clip mark and "1975" penned by previous owner; otherwise in good condition. The front states: "You are cordially invited to attend..." Interior states: "...the preview opening of the world's largest gay bar --- the gay club for...anyone." Another, 8.5 x 11 inches, with minor fold-creasing and previous owner's penned date of 1977 in top margin; otherwise in very good condition, advertises two of the bar's Halloween balls, and featuring "special prize for the Foxiest, 'real' girl and most Masculine guy..." Lastly, an 8.5 x 13 inch, double-sided leaflet with creasing near the bottom, and year 1977 penned in top margin; otherwise in very good condition. One side advertises "We're back to stay!" and lists various events of their new grand opening. The other side has an illustration of a crying elephant and states: "We all make mistakes, our's was a big one...never again! We're gay all the way!" A rather curious handbill, perhaps referring to an attempt to go "straight" that backfired. We have been unable to track down the full story. (Inventory #: 327591)
