Philip Hyde (1921-2006) was a leading landscape photographer and conservationist. He attended Ansel Adams' photography program at the California School of Fine Arts in 1947, studying under photographers such as Edward Weston, Minor White, Imogen Cunningham and Dorothea Lange. In addition to his photography, Hyde was known for his environmental activism. He worked hand in hand with numerous conservation organizations, including the Sierra Club, the Wilderness Society, and the Environmental Defense Fund. His photographs were used in crusades to protect wilderness areas and to advance awareness about environmental issues. (Inventory #: 67605)
