Bright red endbands. Decoratively illustrated green page borders. Very minor soiling to the text block edges. There are small stains on a handful of the pages, including the illustrated plate facing p. 256. In the illustrated dust jacket, which has periodic small chips to the edges and fading to the title on the spine. The bottom corner of the front inside flap is clipped, however the $7.50 price is still intact in the top corner of the flap. In the matching slipcase, with light surface and edge wear, and a 3/4" split along the bottom edge. Newell worked during the "golden age of book and magazine illustration" along with such artists as A. B. Frost, Frederic Remington, Howard Pyle, Dan Beard, and Winslow Homer. The Peter Newell-illustrated version of "Alice in Wonderland" first appeared in 1901. His illustrations of Alice in Wonderland offered the world a set of illustrations to serve as a contrast to Sir John Tenniel's hugely popular concept of Wonderland. (Inventory #: 67566)
