Cule's 12 stories are claimed in the author's note to be "not in any sense intended for children's reading," but for the most part "simple records of incidents observed and children's conversations overheard," published for the sentimental contemplation of late-Victorian adults and all "those who love and know their children." A bright copy. Scarce. 7.25'' x 5''. Original rose pictorial cloth stamped in black and gilt. All edges gilt. Black-and-white illustrations by Charles Robinson. 139, [5] pages. Inscribed by Cule on front free endpaper: "With the Author's Warm Regards / 1900." Spine with slight lean and a bit of sunning, minor soil to cloth, offsetting to endpapers. Front hinge starting but sound.
