The tracks and power lines of the Red Car trolleys are evident in this 9 3/4" x 8" photograph, along with period automobiles. Advertising signs on the buildings reflecting the flourishing commerce downtown, including one for Old Gold cigarettes ("Love at first light!") and several for Mandel's "fascinating slippers". Mandel's opened at 518 West Seventh Street in March 1936 and claimed to be the largest shoe store in the western United States. The photographer of this black-and-white image is unknown.
