Hong Kong: International Film Festival of Hong Kong. Near Fine. 1978. First Edition. Stapled wraps. [very slight bending at lower right corner, minor handling wear]. (B&W photographs) A tribute booklet devoted to the great Chinese-American cinematographer, issued in conjunction with an exhibition about him that was part of the 2nd International Film Festival of Hong Kong (and, presumably, some kind of retrospective screening program, although the booklet doesn't mention such a thing specifically). Sanora Babb (Mrs. James Wong Howe) contributed the Foreword and an introductory poem ("A Circling Wind, for Jimmy"), and there are numerous short pieces about various aspects of Wong Howe's life, work, and personality. Notable among these are: "In Memory of My Teacher," by Peter Yung; accounts of professional collaborations with him by director Herbert Ross and fellow cinematographer Haskell Wexler; a personal reminiscence by artist Dong Kingman of their long friendship. The booklet is heavily photo-illustrated, and all textual material is presented in both English and Chinese. Includes filmography (titles only). . (Inventory #: 29015)
