by Adams, Josiah
Boston: Damrell & Moore, printers, 1850. First edition. (9.375" x 5.75"). 24 pp. With folding lithographic map titled "Map of the scene of the Concord fight, in 1775" (Tappan & Bradfords Lith. Boston). In original printed wraps, inscribed at head of front wrap "Ebenezer Barker Esquire/ from his friend/ The Author". Spine split, wraps soiled, with chips lost at spine, corners, and edges; chipping at corners of first few text leaves, a few stray marks in text, which remains fully legible. A Good copy of Adams's response to controversial claims made in Shattuck's town-history of Concord, MA (1835) regarding Acton militiamen in the Battle of Concord. Besides initiating a parochial rivalry between the towns of Acton and Concord, the dispute prompted the recording of numerous first-hand accounts of the battle, several of which Adams presents here.
