4to (10 15/16” x 8 ½”); [12]pp; glazed stiff color pictorial wrapper, front wrapper features a chromolithograph of Santa in a sleigh pulled by reindeer; 3 staple binding; 4 full-page chromolithograph titled illustrations, small sepia illustrations in text; light soiling to wrapper, rear wrapper has light vertical crease, a few light fingerprints; very good. (Marshall 129. Lawrence 36.). This beloved Christmas children’s poem by Clement C. Moore tells the story of Santa’s visit. Four lovely full-page chromolithographed illustrations are titled “Bringing in the Holly,” “Hanging up their Stockings,” “The way in!” and “Filling the Stockings.” The front wrapper pictures Santa in a green sleigh loaded with toys and evergreens and pulled by reindeer with bright red harnesses soaring over a house roof. An interesting detail is the telegraph pole with wires across the top of the illustration. (Inventory #: 2017)
