Sketch is in black ink, heightened in blue, orange brown and purple gouache on his hair, face, scarf, shirt and hat. Unframed. Full sheet size (12 3/4 x 9 7/8 inches; 325 x 250 mm). A beautiful image of this endearing character, about fine.
The character of Pepito was first introduced in Bemelmans' story "Madeline and the Bad Hat" where Pepito, the son of the Spanish Ambassador, moves next door to Madeline and she calls him a "bad hat" because he is a troublemaker.
