This is one of three penny dreadful or vinegar valentine paper dolls we are offering in this catalog. Vinegar valentines were quite popular from to the mid 19th C to the early part of the 20th Century. They were usually sent anonymously and with a bit of a mean-spiritedness to someone you were not fond of. Usually not signed... These are a variation on the theme, as they are dressed scrap paper dolls being used with the same malicious intent. This one is “The Masher” and depicts a rather surly looking fellow. Measures 4” x 6”. Condition: light wear on card; otherwise fine. (Inventory #: 31579)
