London: Printed by J[ames] C[ottrell] for William Crook, at the Green Dragon without Temple-bar, 1676. Book. Very good+ condition. Hardcover. First Edition. 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. [12], 384 pages of text. Signatures: A-Z6, Aa-Kk6. Along with other printing anomalies, page 194 is incorrectly numbered 94; 226 is 26; 234 is 243; and 368 is 378. The publisher, not fully identified on the title page, is listed in the publisher's advertisements located on A4-6 between the pages containing "The Contents" and the text. New full leather binding with Cambridge style blind tooling on front and back covers, and five raised bands on spine. All closed page edges retain original marbling. New endpapers. Title page is slightly soiled, and has a small and expert paper repair to the fore-edge, not affecting the text. Small and old ink stain on page 12, and minor foxing and soiling scattered lightly and sparsely throughout text. PROVENANCE: Previous owner's name stamped neatly on the title page: THOMAS BLACKMORE. Old damaged endpaper retained, laid-in loose, with the initials "W. T. April 1828" handwritten in ink. An old bookseller's notation in pencil identifies this book having been purchased from the collection of SIR WILLIAM TITE (1798-1873), at the Sotheby, Wilkinson & Hodge sale in May, 1874. It is indeed listed as item number 1461 in the "Catalogue of the Extensive, Important and Valuable Collection of Books, Manuscripts, Autograph Letters, and Engravings of the Late Sir William Tite". Also, retained and laid-in loose, 20th-Century bookplate: WILLIAM S. STONE. BIBLIOGRAPHY: Wing H2550; ESTC R002521; Macdonald & Hargreaves 79. NOTE: The First Edition of Hobbe's "Odysses" was published a year earlier, in 1675, AND IS NOT INCLUDED HERE. The Second Edition of Hobbe's "Odysses" was printed in 1677.
