1860 · London
London: [Whitney Co.?], 1860. Near-fine. Some toning/dust soiling.. An attractive 12mo lace paper valentine made from lace paper, and Victorian scrap. The oval lace paper is affixed to the valentine with folded tabs, allowing it to float above the valentine and create depth. The larger scrap on the bottom of the valentine depicts a pastoral scene, with a farmer leaning against his horse and ox-pulled plow. Includes four lines of verse printed in pink inside the valentine with decorative border that reads, "These few lines to you are tendered By a Friend sincere and true, Hoping but to be remembered When I'm far away from you." Possibly produced by the valentine maker Whitney Co. Bifolium (4.75" by 3.5").
