New York: Random House, 1941. First edition, limited. Hardcover. Very Good. 156pp. Octavo [24.5 cm] 1/4 beige cloth with marbled paper over boards. Publisher's red topstain. Deckled fore-edges. The spine and hinges are darkened, the underlying boards peeking through at the corners of the covers, and the front hinge is a trifle soft (the text block remains very sturdy). There is a contemporary gift inscription on the front free endpaper, and there is a bookseller's tiny ticket on the rear pastedown. An important work by Robinson Jeffers, published at the beginning of World War II, and reflecting a world in the middle of a death struggle. Twenty-seven poems, including a long narrative poem, "Mara," a masque, and a miscellany of verse.
