Provenance of Zay Jeffries (1888-1965) an American mining engineer, metallurgist and recipient of the 1946 John Fritz Medal. Jeffries played a crucial role during WWII in the fight against Axis powers. His efforts enabled artillery shells to penetrate German tanks and aided the Manhattan Project.
