first edition Wraps
1915 · Esslingen and Munich
by Göhl, Theodor and M. Brethfeld
Esslingen and Munich: J. F. Schreiber, 1915. First Edition presumed. Wraps. Good. N.d., circa 1910s or 20s, and probably on the earlier end of this date range. Oblong, 25 by 34 cm. Unpaginated. Four pages of text on two leaves of thin acidic paper, followed by eight leaves of a thicker paper stock, glossy on the side of the cut-outs to make the various objects, with the other side a non-glossy brown blank page. The objects include a plate to place under a lamp, a book dust jacket, shallow bowls which could serve as ashtrays or for small odds and ends on a dressing table, a box, a toy house. This book was the second of three such books published by Schreiber, all of them today a rarity. We could locate no copies outside of the German-speaking countries, and even there, there are only two institutional copies listed on OCLC First Search, and of all three books in the series, a total of only eight listings. The wraps have some roughness, with a few small edge chips, some light blistering and staining and narrow areas where the surface color is gone. The spine is just holding, with closed tears both top and bottom. The two text leaves are heavily age toned, as to be expected given the cheap acidic paper. The plates are bright and clean, though. Thus the interior we consider in very good condition, the cover, only fair, and overall, we deem the book Good.
