by Genesis Breyer P-Orridge
New York: Invisible-Exports, 2009. First Edition. Hardcover. Very good. Full-color catalogue from the acclaimed retrospective exhibition of collages and mail art by Genesis P-Orridge (1950-2020), the English singer-songwriter, musician, poet, performance artist, visual artist, and occultist who rose to notoriety as the founder of the COUM Transmissions artistic collective and lead vocalist of seminal industrial band Throbbing Gristle. In the early 1970s, P-Orridge met William S. Burroughs, who introduced them to Brion Gysin, marking the beginning of a seminal and influential collaborative relationship. Burroughs, under Gysin's tutelage, repopularized the "cut-up" technique of the early 20th century Surrealists, in which text, or narrative imagery, is cut up and re-organized, creating a new, non-linear formulation. The supremely Dadaist practice would influence P-Orridge throughout their career and remains an integral element of their work. Octavo: unpaginated. With a postcard laid in opposite each of the two "place subversive image here" leaves. Original pictorial boards; issued without a dust jacket. Minor bumping to corners and tips; otherwise very good.
