Thomas and James McLane (1873-74) and Material Medica by Dr. Eward Curtis (1873-74). Luis (1848-1930), as a medical student, participated in the Ten Years War for Cuban independence. He would graduate University Medical College of New York University in 1876 and practice in Brooklyn and later Philadelphia. Dr. Luis was arrested along with General Carlos Roloff, Secretary of War of the Cuban Provisional Government, in conjunction with a filibustering expedition in July 1895 on the steamer Woodall to supply arms and men to the Cuban insurgency before the Spanish American war. In the 20th century he would serve as a Cuban consul in the U.S. (Inventory #: 368828)
