Cerreta, the president of Mud Shark Records, first published a sales list of Zappa items called Totally Zapped, which evolved into the Mother People fanzine. Readers were allowed to sell bootleg vinyl through the publication, a practice Cerreta also engaged in until he was arrested. In addition to Frank Zappa, the zine also features news and reviews related to the Mothers of Invention, Captain Beefheart, the Missing Persons, the Grandmothers, and anything else Cerreta deemed to be in the world of "Mothermania".
