Scarce auction catalogue, with prices recorded by a contemporary annotator; we locate a single example in North American collections. Chabot (1733-1807) was a lieutenant general in the French army, he fled the Revolution in 1790, but returned to Paris two years later. The duke amassed a choice collection of drawings, prints, sculptures, and decorative arts. His paintings had been sold in December 1787 (Lugt 4230).
