FIRST EDITION of this critical overview of Greek and Latin authors, written by the elusive Richter, "who appears to have left no other traces of his existence than those which this work contains" (CJ, p. 171). "Buddeus, who originally served as professor of theology at Jena, became professor of ethics and civil law at Halle, and also wrote commentaries on works by Conrad Dieterich, Salomon Glassius, Philipp Jacob Spencer and Johann Arndt" (Dahl, p. 281). CERL Thesaurus identifies Richter as a German author and theologian, son of the pastor of Legnica (1629-1690). He was a student at Wittenberg and himself a pastor at Gollschau from 1686-1700.
