Stitched pamphlet with older cloth tape reinforcing spine, 7⅜ x 4¾ inches, light wear and staining throughout, but still a presentable copy. Ten sheets, including wraps, each printed on one side only, to produce a booklet of eight printed pages with wraps printed on outer sides only. Pencil gift inscription on inside front wrap; to Lewis Cass, but clearly not the secretary of state or his son.
Charming juvenile with handcolored wood engravings by prolific illustrator John D. Felter (1825-1914), who later served as head of the Graphics Department of the Methodist Books Concern.
