by PAILLET, Charles, expert
32 pp. 8vo, late 19th-cent. marbled boards, title on spine. Paris: Nouzou, 1818.
Scarce sale catalogue, annotated throughout with prices and buyers' names in a contemporary hand; we find only two copies in North American libraries. The consigners of this sale's contents have not been clearly established, the title-page of this copy bears a manuscript note suggesting that "M. de B***" was "Bertinval," possibly a member of the noble family Thourou de Bertinval. Charles Paillet may have also mixed in pictures from his stock.
A total of 156 lots were auctioned, a contemporary annotator has recorded nearly all of the prices realized and many of the buyers who won lots, providing important details on provenance. Unfortunately, in the process of fashioning a new binding for this catalogue, the binder has closely trimmed the edges, partially cutting away some of the names.
Near fine. Engraved bookplate of Georges Pannier to front paste-down and stamp of the Bibliothèque Heim to verso of title.
❧ Lugt 9331. (Inventory #: 10575)
